Loafer 2013 – Movie Review

Nepali movie ‘Loafer’ was released on December 6, 2013 in theaters all over Nepal. The movie could manage to create a good hype in media because the producer Chhabi Raj Ojha. Chhabi, who had been continuously working with Rekha Thapa for the last decade, had replaced Rekha with a new actress Rajani KC in ‘Loafer’. In addition to that, the movie is also the first movie of Chhabi Raj Ojha, that is especially targeted to multiplex audiences. The movie directed by Aditya Bikram Lamsal features artists Aryan Sigdel, Dayahang Rai, Rajani KC, and Kamal Mani Nepal in leading roles.

Story:

‘Loafer’ is a story of Bhanta played by Dayahang Rai.  Bhanta joins two friends and one driver drinking wine in a bar. The party went on for the the whole night. In the next morning, they found an unconscious girl in their car. A news that the the girl, who happened to be the daughter of a Minister, kidnaped by a gang was published in every major newspapers.

The news and the unconscious girl left  Bhanta and other three worried. They planned to take girl to a farm house at Godawari. They were supposed to wait there for the girl to become conscious and they could send her back to her home. But when they reach to Godawari, they changed the plan. Now, the girl is really kidnapped by  Bhanta and the driver. On another side, an inspector, Sigdel,  investigating this case finds out the whereabouts of the girl. But, when Sigdel reaches the farm house, at Godavari, the real suspense of the movie unfolds. To know what the real suspense of the movie and the story of Bhunte, you can visit one of the almost 100 theatres the movie is running in.

Strength and Weakness:

‘Loafer’ has a very good story to start with. The story appeals to the the audience of multiplex theaters. Popular star cast of the movie is another major plus point of the movie. The audience of the city areas and multiplexes know the artists well. The director Aditya Bikram Lamsal however has been failed to present the excellent story and well known actors in an effective way.

‘Loafer’ is a good example of how a good story concept and good actors are not enough to win the heart of multiplexes audiences. The movie has failed in irritating ways for the audience of city areas. The overall presentation and background music do not seem fresh. Most of the scenes of the movie seem like stale scenes that people have watched before. The action scenes and songs don’t relate to the flow of the story.

In a few scenes, Kamal Mani Nepal has been successful in makes the audience laugh with his dialogue delivery style and facial expression. In a lot of scenes, the movie will give a feel of ‘Loot‘.  But, weak screenplay and weak presentation has ruined the good story of the movie.

Loud background music might work for the single-screen audience, but it doesn’t work well in multiplexes.

Star Cast:

The lead actor of the movie, Dayahang Rai is a good actor. But, in ‘Loafer’ he doesn’t have anything new to offer to the audience.  The movie revolves around the character  Bhanta but the character hasn’t been able to win the heart of audiences.

Aryan Sigdel, featured as inspector Sigdel sounds and acts like the police officers usually seen in most of the Bollywood movies. Such a character is so common in movies, the audiences can’t find anything new in Sigdel’s role. In essence – Aryan Sigdel and Dayahang Rai can perform much better than what they have done in ‘Loafer’.

The lead actress Rajani KC got a lot of free publicity because of the fact that she replaced Rekha Thapa in one of of Chhabi Raj Ojha’s film. Although she got a good publicity, the entry hasn’t helped her much as she doesn’t have a role that can prove her talents. Rajani seem to have done an special appearance. She hardly delivers five lines of dialogue and for acting she hasn’t been able to justify the expression of a kidnapped girl.

Kamal Mani Nepal’s performance is funny. Although his dialogues are funny he could have done more.

In essence, the director had failed to use the full potential of the actors strength of actors to make it a good movie and please the audience of multiplexes.

Conclusion:

The story and concept of ‘Loafer’ is very good. Chhabi has done a good attempt to woo young audience with good story and artists.

But, the presentation failed miserably. Chhabi Raj Ojha has failed in catering the audience of multiplex theaters by ‘Loafer’. It seems, he is not yet ready to appeal to the young generation. The director has failed in presentation and utilizing the artist’s potential.

My recommendation: Forget the movie and save your money and time.

Nepali Film – Loafer (2013)

Comedy action thriller movie ‘Loafer’ is released on Mangsir 21, 2070 in about 100 theaters all over Nepal. The script of the movie is written by the director Aditya Bikram Lamsal. The movie also presents the commercial film artists and theater artists in the movie.

This movie marks the first movie by the successful single-theater producer, Chhabi Raj Ojha’s targeting multiplex theaters. This is also the first movie by the producer without featuring Rekha Thapa in more than a decade. The new actress Rajani KC is debuting in the Nepali film industry in the movie. At the time when the movie releases in theater, Chhabi’s ex-wife had left country to show her movie ‘Kali‘ in Hong Kong.

‘Loafer’ was previously announced to release on October 11, during the Dashain festival. Rekha had also announced her movie ‘Kali’ to release on that date. Chhabi and Rekha later decided to team up to release ‘Kali’ on that day and postpone the release of ‘Loafer’ to a later date.

Loafer initial report – Rekha’s Kali did better opening in theatres

In an initial report, Chhabi Raj Ojha’s movie ‘Loafer’ is not attracting audience as expected on the first day of the show. According to the initial analysis, if Rekha’s ‘Kali’ and Chhabi’s ‘Loafer’ were released on the same day, as was announced previously, ‘Kali’ would have easily steal the lime lights.

‘Kali’ enjoyed houseful opening and it turned out to be a super hit movie of 2070. Being released during Dashain festival might have contributed to the success of ‘Kali’ but, Rekha’s star value on movies can’t be denied.

Chhabi has started the shooting of another movie without Rekha – ‘Lazza’. The movie is introducing another actress – Shilpa Pokharel. Aryan Sigdel, the actor of ‘Loafer’ and Chhabi’s upcoming ‘Lazza’, was introduced by Rekha Films. It’s a coincidence – among Aryan’s movies only the movie under Rekha Films banners were successful. These days, Rekha is not in good terms with Aryan.

‘Loafer’ success or failure can’t be predicted by the first day alone, but one thing is sure, Rekha is a lucky charm for Chhabi.

The ‘Loafer’ actress Rajani KC and the team watched the movie in Kumari theater in Kathmandu on Friday. The new movie by Chhabi Raj Ojha introduces Rajani in the movie industry. 

Rajani went to watch the movie with her mother and says that it was "a life time experience".

Rajani’s introduction is being closely watched as a replacement if Rekha in Chhabi camp. The success or the failure of the movie is expected to determine if Rekha Thapa was a lucky charm of Chhabi or not. Before divorce and registration of Chhabiraj Films, Chhabi Raj Ojha used to produce movies under Rekha Films banner.

Loafer released and Rekha and Chhabi relationship

Well known producer, Chhabi Raj Ojha is releasing his new movie ‘Loafer’ on December 6, 2013. The movie poses both challenge to Chhabi in various aspects. There are a few first times attached to the movie. To name some:

‘Loafer’ :

• is the first movie by Chhabi without Rekha after their decade long relationship.
• features a new actress, Rajani KC, in lead role. In the past, Rekha used to be in lead by default.
• is the first movie under Chhabiraj Films witout any attachment with Rekha Films. (The first movie jointly by Chhabiraj Films and Rekha Films was ‘Hamesha’)
• is the first movie by Chhabi targeted to multiplex theaters.

So far, at least for the last decade, Rekha had always been by Chhabi’s side when his movies were being released. This is the first time Rekha is not with Chhabi. In fact, she has even left the country to show her movie ‘Kali‘ in Hong Kong. Although the show is in Hong Kong is scheduled for December 8, Rekha had departed 5 days earlier. Chhabi had helped Rekha’s ‘Kali’ and had postponed ‘Loafer’ release date to accommodate the release of ‘Kali’ during the Dashain holiday season. But, at the time when Chhabi releases his movie, Rekha has left country just in time to miss the big day.

In case, ‘Loafer’ didn’t do well in theater – Chhabi will have tough time explaining the reasons.

Shilpa Pokhrel to debut in Lazza, Chhabi changing actresses

Producer Chhabi Raj Ojha is going to introduce a new actress – Shilpa Pokhrel in his upcoming movie ‘Lazza’. Chhabi announced the new movie with the announcement of the release of ‘Loafer’. 

‘Lazza’ is going to feature Aryan Sigdel, Mithila Sharma, Kiran KC, Hiuwala Gautam and Shilpa Pokhrel. The movie is being directed by Nawal Nepal, known for directing Kalyan Ghimire’s ‘Shreeman’ and ‘Mahasush’.

The movie will feature music of Chetan Sapkota, background score of Maharaj Thapa, action of Chandra Panta and choreography of Kabiraj Gahatraj.

Before the separation, Rekha Thapa used to be the only actress Chhabi used to work. Now, he seem to be changing actress in every movies. So far, Chhabi has produced/announced three movies and all three movies have different actresses. In ‘Hamesha’ he featured Rekha Thapa in leading role in the second movie ‘Loafer’  he introduced Rajani KC in and now in the third movie ‘Lazza’ he is introducing Shilpa.

Good things about Rekha Thapa (by Chhabi Raj Ojha)

Chhabi Raj Ojha is not only the ex-husband of Rekha Thapa, he is also a very successful producer. He is credited for creating the environment to make Rekha the top actress. Rekha also respect Chhabi as her guardian in the industry.

In a talk to a journalist of a weekly, ‘Saptahik’, Chhabi pointed out some good and bad points of the actress. In this post, we will only quote the good points and will write another post to discuss the bad aspects of the actress.

Chhabi thinks Rekha is:

1. One of the most influential actress in the Nepali movie industry. He says Rekha is ‘Lady Salman Khan’ of Nepali movie industry.
2. In his 25-years-old career in the film industry, he hasn’t seen many artists as laborious and truthful as Rekha.
3. Rekha takes constructive criticism to her heart. She likes to take challenge and win.
4. Rekha’s style has become a brand in itself.
5. Rekha is also lucky.
6. Rekha takes her responsibility to her family a top priority. Chhabi admits – Rekha gives more importance to her mother, her brother, and father the top priority. Chhabi admits this to be one of the reasons they separated (And, he still thinks this to be her positive quality).

Loafer Nepali Movie releases Official Trailer | Watch Official Trailer HD Video of "LOAFER" Nepali Film 2014

Nepali Movie Loafer has released its official promotional Trailer today. The movie directed by Aditya Bikram Lamsal is produced by popular Chhabi Raj Ojha along with Dijendra Shakya. Loafer is a comedy Action thriller scheduled to release on 6th December 2013 (21st Mangsir). Watch the trailer of the movie released today below.

Although Aryan Sigdel is one of the main highlights of the movie, his role hasn’t been made clear from the trailer. Along with Aryan Sigel, Dayahang Rai , Kamal Mani Nepal, Sushil Raj Pandey, Anupam Sharma, Sagar Lamsal Kshetri and Razni K.C will be seen in the lead roles of the movie.

Director Aditya Bikram Lamsal himself has written the story for the movie.

Chhabi’s new movie Lazza to feature Aryan Sigdel and Shilpa Pokharel

The inauguration of an upcoming movie ‘Lazza’ was held in the Ganesh mandir of Kamaladi on October 28. Producer Chhabi Raj Ojha and director Nawal Nepal inaugurated the movie by offering puja in the temple. Chhabi’s another movie ‘Loafer’ is releasing in theater on Mangsir 21.

Although the movie was inaugurated on Monday, the shooting will not start until after the Tihar festival. In the mean time the lead actor Aryan Sigdel is busy in his home production ‘November Rain’. The movie is the debut movie of Aryan’s opposite Shilpa Pokharel. Shilpa, a well known model in music videos, has taken a formal training on acting in preparation of the movie.

‘Lazza’ is to be made on a love story by Chhabi himself. The script and dialogue is prepared by the director Nawal Nepal. The movie features music of Chetan Sapkota and will be shot by the cinematographer Madan Kashyap Ghimire.

Chhabi Ojha is known for introducing most number of new actor and actresses in Nepali movie industry. The top actor and actresses in Nepali movie industry including Rajesh Hamal and Rekha Thapa, Aryan Sigdel etc. were introduced by Chhabi. 

Shilpa Pokharel to debut in Lazza (New Nepali Movie 2013)

A well known actress and model of music videos, Shilpa Pokharel is going to debut in big screen Nepali movie in Chhabi Raj Ojha’s ‘Lazza’. Chhabi is known to introduce successful actors and actresses in the past. Shilpa’s opposite in the movie Aryan Sigdel was also introduced by Chhabi in the past. The top actress Rekha Thapa and the top actor Rajesh Hamal were both introduced by Chhabi.

In small screen, she had started her acting career in a comedy serial ‘Gharbeti Ba’ in Kantipur Television. She acted in a main role in 16-episodes of the serial. When Shishir Subedi left the serial, Shilpa also left it and started modeling in music video.

Music video journey

The first music video she did was of singer Purna Rai’s video. The music video titled ‘Halka Halka…’ was directed by Arjun Adhikari. But, the music video is yet to to released to public.

The first music video that was released to public was Anju Pant and Sworup Raj Acharya’s ‘Timi Kasko Hune…’ The video was an instant success. After the success of the video, she has become one of the most busiest music video models. She did about 100 music videos in a year’s time.

Shilpa has worked with various music video directors like Munal Shishir, Arjun Adhikari, Subash Regmi, Shiva BK, Umer Gurung, Diwas Pokharel, and Bikesh Subedi.

Shilpa, a beautician

In addition to modeling and acting, Shilpa is also a trained beautician. Shilpa has done an advance course in beautician from Neel David’s Saloon. Although she is a trained beautician, she is more inclined towards acting and wishes to be one of the successful actresses.

Rekha Thapa celebrates the success of ‘Kali’ by buying a new car

The release of Rekha Thapa‘s latest movie ‘Kali‘ posed a lot of threats. Some threats Rekha might have felt are:

• It was the first movie she had produced alone. All of Rekha Film’s previous movie were produced by Chhabi Raj Ojha.
• While Rekha was busy in ‘Kali’, Chhabi was producing his own ‘Loafer’. The media had termed the ‘Loafer’ actress Rajani KC the new Rekha. Some even speculated Chhabi marrying Rajani.
• The release date of ‘Loafer’ and ‘Kali’ was set on the same date – Fulpati of Dashain.
• These issueses led Rekha to approach Chhabi (or, the other way around) to let Chhabi distribute ‘Kali’. That saved Rekha from a tough competition. But, it also created another problem. The distributors Rekha had previously promised for the distribution of the movie got angered by the Rekha and Chhabi team. They found another movie featuring Rekha to release on the same date as ‘Kali’
• The Bhojpuri movie ‘Damani’ was a hit movie in Bhojpuri and it features Rekha in a guest role. The distributors, decided to highlight Rekha and release the movie to take away ‘Kali’ viewers.

Although Rekha’s ‘Kali’ was saved from the competition of Chhabi’s movie ‘Loafer’ it’s couldn’t escape  from herself in ‘Damini’. The publicity of the movie paid off and ‘Kali’ remained in theater for more than two weeks.

Rekha and the team say that the movie has made a good profit. According to media report, the movie has earned in excess of 1.5 crores. Rekha says that she has made a good profit after recovering the cost of production. To show-off the profit, Rekha has also bought a car costing Rs. 43 lakh. 

Kali and Damini release controversy in it’s peak

On the Fulpati day of Dashain two movies of Rekha Thapa are releasing. Such a release of ‘Kali’ and ‘Damini’ at the same time can divide the viewers causing loss of revenue to both of them.

It seems, the clash in release is started when Rekha choose Chhabi Raj Ojha to distribute the movie. Before that, distributor Manoj Rathi was supposed to release the movie. Manoj Rathi group lost the right when Chhabi Raj Ojha entered the scene. After that, Manoj Rathi group purchased the rights of Bhojpuri film ‘Damini’ to release on the same date.

It seems, Chhabi couldn’t take it anymore when ‘Damini’ replaced ‘Kali‘ in Bishowjyoti theater. Chhabi wrote a letter to the Film Development Board to intervene the issue and let the Nepali movie get a preferred treatment.

Manoj Rathi says that the movie was also shot in Nepali language along with Bhojpuri language, so it is not a foreign movie. In addition, the actors and crew members in the movie are Nepali so, he says, the issue of the movie being a foreign movie is baseless.
